Damson Dust

A humble, dusty shade of grey is brought to life in Yet Another Shawl. I’m starting to think I may have a problem… In my defense, I wear a scarf of some sort every day, so having several to choose from in different styles, colours and sizes is entirely logical. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it).

This, of course, is Damson, another winner from Ysolda Teague. A beautiful, simple (in the best sense) pattern, it has a generous curve to the ‘wings’ making it sit comfortably on the shoulders. It’s therefore much easier to wear as an actual shawl than many patterns, without making you look like you’re auditioning for the chorus of The Fiddler On The Roof.

I’ve made one before, in Inca Mist baby alpaca for my mum on Mothers’ Day:

The alpaca drapes beautifully and gives it enough weight to stay put. And of course it’s soft and fluffy and just the thing to keep a mum cosy.

I knitted mine in the oh-so-delicious Sweet Feet from Artists’ Palette Yarns. It’s a blend of 80% superwash merino and 20% bamboo, which gives it a lovely drape and a light and airy touch. It’s a slightly thicker sock yarn compared to some and knits up into a wonderfully smooshy fabric, especially in garter stitch.  I’m sure it would make a fabulous pair of socks, but I’d much rather have it snuggled around my neck and shoulders, with the beautiful colours on display.

I went for an understated shade this time, so that I can easily wear it with some of my brightly coloured party dresses to keep off the evening chill. Perfect for my cousin’s wedding this weekend!
